Privacy Policy

Account information: your email address, phone number, display name, username, and preferred language when you create an account.

Authentication data: a hashed version of your password, or, if you sign in with Google, GitHub, Facebook, or Apple, an identifier from that provider linking your Kwaafri account to your account on their service. We never see or store your password from those providers.

Learning activity: lessons completed, quiz attempts, XP, streaks, and progress across languages, so we can track your learning and show you relevant content.

Kid profiles: if you create a profile for a child under your account, we collect that child's display name and avatar, but no separate email or phone number — a kid profile is always managed through the parent account's login credentials.

Contact form submissions: your name, email, subject, and message when you contact us.

Audio dataset contributions: if you contribute or interact with audio clips in our language datasets, we may process voice recordings and associated metadata (dialect, domain, transcription status).

• To create and maintain your account and any kid profiles linked to it
• To provide lessons, track progress, and personalize content
• To send account-related emails (verification, password resets, confirmations)
• To respond to messages sent through our contact form
• To improve our language datasets and learning content
• To keep the platform secure and prevent abuse

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your data to serve third-party advertising.

Kid profiles are created and managed by a parent or guardian through their own account. A kid profile cannot independently sign up, change its own settings, or provide personal information beyond a display name and avatar chosen by the parent.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information beyond what this policy describes, please contact us so we can review and, if necessary, remove it.

We share information only in these limited circumstances:

• With service providers who help us operate Kwaafri (hosting, database, and email delivery), bound to only use it to provide those services
• With the OAuth provider you choose to sign in with, limited to the authentication handshake itself
• If required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we're required to retain certain records by law.

• You can update your profile information at any time from your account settings
• You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• You can request deletion of your account and associated data
• If you signed up via a third-party provider, you can revoke Kwaafri's access from that provider's account settings at any time

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including password hashing and encrypted connections. No system is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security of information you provide.

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above, and for material changes, we'll make a reasonable effort to notify you directly.
