Help your language show up online.

Most language-teaching apps don't teach Dholuo, Gĩkũyũ or Luhya because there isn't enough recorded speech. Your voice and a few minutes of your time change that.

What you'll do

Write short dialogues

Everyday chats like greetings, buying sukuma or asking for directions. These become lessons.

Record your voice

Say each line out loud so learners hear how it really sounds.

Transcribe clips

Listen to real recordings and write down what's said. This trains speech tools for our languages.

Tidy up audio

Trim silence and even out the volume with the built-in editor. No experience needed.

How it works

  1. 1

    Join

Read the short terms below and tap join. Your account switches over straight away.

  2. 2

    Pick a task

Start a dialogue or grab a clip. Even five minutes helps.

  3. 3

    Submit

When you're happy, send it for review. You can keep editing until then.

  4. 4

    Go live

A reviewer checks it. Approved work shows up in lessons and the dataset.

Questions

How much time do I need?+

As much as you like. A dialogue takes about 15 minutes; a clip takes two or three. There are no targets.

Is this paid?+

Volunteering is unpaid. We sometimes invite regular volunteers to become paid workers; that's done by the team, not something you apply for.

Who hears my recordings?+

Reviewers first, then learners once a lesson is approved. Recordings may also be used to train speech models for these languages.

What if I make a mistake?+

That's what review is for. If something needs fixing you'll get a note, and you can edit and resubmit.

Can I stop?+

Any time, from this page. You go back to your normal learner account and your past work stays credited to you.
